Beijing is famous for its time-honored history. When the People’s Republic of China was founded, Beijing had already gone through three thousand years of history, start with the Zhou dynasty. As the capital of six dynasties (the later Yan dynasty, Liao dynasty, Jin dynasty, Yuan dynasty, Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty), Beijing has served as the political center of China since ancient times, carrying weighty significance in Chinese history. After China was forced to open its ports as a result of the Opium War, and after it experienced the outbreak of the bourgeois democratic revolution, its time as the capital of feudal dynasties finally came to an end.
On 1st October, 1949, the People’s Republic of China was founded and Beijing was made its capital. The city of Beijing has endured the rises and falls of the Chinese nation and stood witness to the founding of this nation of people.
